China-Singapore Institute of Digital Media

The China-Singapore Institute of Digital Media (CSIDM) was set up by the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASIA) with funding support by the Media Development Authority (MDA) of Singapore under the Interactive Digital Media Programme Office (IDMPO) initiative. CSIDM is engaged in research collaboration with the National University of Singapore.

The vision of CSIDM is Language Mediation – Breaking the language barrier to enable communication between speakers of different languages. It focuses on research in natural language processing, speech processing, and multimedia processing.

Current research projects identified are in the following areas: spoken dialogue analysis, language translation, affective video analysis, immersive environment, and sensor networks for gesture recognition.

The director of CSIDM is Professor Xu Bo from CASIA. Associate Professor Ng Hwee Tou from the National University of Singapore is the co-director of the CSIDM-NUS collaboration project. Prof. Xu and Prof. Ng are well known for their research in speech processing and natural language processing respectively.
