On September 14 and 15 in 2013, the 13th China Virtual Reality (ChinaVR) Conference and International Conference on Virtual Reality and Visualization (ICVRV 2013) were held jointly in Xi'an. The National Laboratory of Pattern Recognition, Institute of Automation have taken part in the conference organization, and Professor Xiaopeng Zhang acts as the co-chair of the Program Committee of ICVRV 2013.
The conferences include seven keynote speeches, which are reported by Professor Mateu Sbert(University of Girona, Spain), Professor Enhua Wu(Macau University), Professor Shimin Hu(Tsinghua University), Professor Hujun Bao(Zhejiang University), Professor Yongtian Wang(Beijing Institute of Technology) , Professor Guoping Wang(Peking University), and Professor Zhigeng Pan (Hangzhou Normal University) respectively.
The ChinaVR conference receives 218 Chinese papers in total, 87 are accepted with 39.91% acceptance rate, in which 81 papers are published on the 9th and 10th of " Journal of System Simulation " in 2013 as regular papers, 3 excellent papers are recommended to " Chinese Journal of Computers," and another 3 excellent papers are recommended to " Computer-Aided design and Computer Graphics ". ICVRV2013 receives a total of 180 English papers, which are submitted by the authors from Algeria, American Samoa, China, Czech Republic, Pakistan, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States and other countries. The regular paper acceptance rate is 19.5%, and the total number of accepted papers is 68 including regular papers and short papers, with 37.78% acceptance rate. 60 papers are published in the Processings issued by IEEE CPS, and 8 excellent papers are recommended to the journal “Transaction on Entertainment” issued by Springer. At least two specialists review each paper and give the comments. The accepted papers cover a wide variety of fields, including animation, virtual human, augmented reality (AR), behavioral modeling, data visualization, digital entertainment and education, distributed systems, distributed virtual environments, dynamic texture synthesis, embedded graphics system, geometry compression, graphics hardware acceleration , virtual simulation of plant growth , haptic rendering touch, human-computer interaction technology, image -based rendering, intelligent virtual environments, machine vision, mixed reality technology, modeling, multimedia technology, multi-resolution technology, optical display technology, real-time graphics rendering, 3D data acquisition technology, 3D geographic information systems, medical image reconstruction, various types of simulators, virtual design / manufacturing / engineering, volume rendering of virtual geographic environment of mining and exploration, VR application of pattern recognition, virtual reality applications, VR sensor technology, VR system architecture, web-3D , etc . ICVRV2013 conference includes 9 sessions for paper reporting, and Dr. Weiliang Meng from Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences presided the simulation session. Besides, Dr. Jia Liu and Dr. Weiliang Meng both from Institute of Automation made their oral reports for their accepted papers respectively.
For researchers, engineers and students in the field of virtual reality and visualization, ICVRV is a dynamic international forum for academic exchange between scholars, and plays an important role for the academic progress of virtual reality and visualization.
These two conferences are both sponsored by China Computer Federation (CCF), co-sponsored by the VR and Visualization Committee of China Computer Federation, the VR committee of China Society of Image and Graphics, the VR Committee of the China System Simulation Association, the Digital Entertainment Committee of the China System Simulation Association, and IEEE Computer Society, and are undertaken by Northwestern Polytechnical University and Shaanxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Speech & Image Information Processing.
