Professor DAI Ruwei, who has made significant contributions to systematology and artificial intelligence in China, has recently won Honorary Academy Award by Systems Engineering Society of China in October, 2016. Prof. Dai has served Chinese Association of Automation (CAA) as the director since 2002 to 2013. The award from an allied research society not only recognizes his achievements in researches, but also highlights his profound academic fruits and innovations in the field of system science.

As the leading pioneer of pattern recognition, system science, somatic science and intelligent science in China, Prof. Dai has launched his academic career in the beginning of 1970s. His innovation of the Semantic, Syntax Pattern Recognition method has laid the fundamental theoretical basis for Chinese handwriting recognition, which has successively promoted the booming development of China's handwriting recognition industries. His academic researches and methods are still ranked as the frontier in the field of handwriting recognition at home and abroad. What is more, he has been awarded by National Science and Technology Progress Award by Chinese government for his tremendous contributions and achievements.

Many years ago, Dai followed Hsue-Shen Tsien in the research of system science. In 1956, he helped Tsien to open the "Engineering Cybernetics" lectures based on Tsien’s work and translated the masterpiece. Later on, the lectures have cultivated a group of leaders in system science and engineering for the country's higher education and the space program.

Besides, he was also the first to establish the research in "complexity science" in China. In 1990, co-authored with Tsien, Dai published "A New Field of Science - Open Complex Giant System and Its Methodology" in Nature, which was a milestone in the history of systematology development in China. Proposed by Tsien, Dai published "From Qualitative meta-synthesis to Quantitative meta-synthesis" in the Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence. Scientific methodologies in system science are expounded in this paper and Dai’s work is conducive to helping build the framework of the "Meta-synthesis Workshop".

The "Meta-synthesis Workshop" has been widely applied in economy, military and natural disaster controls in China. Dai’s research of social Intelligence science has opened up an important interdisciplinary study between nature and humanity, between science and society.

More recently, Dai and his team have focused their research on national strategy of urbanization development. His proposal of methodologies of system science should be applied in top design of Smart City Construction by using platforms of scientific methodology and comprehensive integration.

Now, Dai is creatively applied his research fruits in pattern recognition and systematology to research of modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). His monograph of Innovative Development of Systematology and Traditional Chinese Medicine has been highly recommended and respected in Japan and Europe. The young scientists he has cultivated along the years have been cutting a striking figure in the globe. His current research of "Clinical Systematology Research in Traditional Chinese Medicine" has made great contributions to modernization development of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China.
