Medical Imaging Toolkit and 3-Dimensional Medical Image Processing and Analyzing System (MITK&3Dmed) developed by Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASIA) drew increasing attention both at home and abroad.

MITK&3Dmed was developed by the Medical Image Processing Group, Key Laboratory of Complex Systems and Intelligence Science in CASIA. It had been downloaded by over 500 users worldwide with an accumulated number of 17,517 by June, 2010.

MITK is a C++ library for integrated medical image processing and analyzing. It aims to provide medical image community with a consistent framework to combine the function of medical image segmentation, registration and visualization.

3Dmed is a MITK-based application system sponsored by National High-tech R&D Program of China (863 Program) and National Natural Science Foundation of China. It provides powerful functions, such as image preprocessing, virtual cutting, surface rendering, volume rendering, manipulation and virtual endoscopy. It had been applied to medical image processing in Columbia University Medical Center Dept. of Ophthalmology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital and General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army.

MITK was at the international level of comprehensive index for computer-assisted surgery platform Top 10 assessed by Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing.
