Hong Qiao is academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, member of the national committee of the 14th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the party member of Jiusan Society and research fellow from Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Now she serves as the director of the State Key Laboratory of Multimodal Artificial Intelligence Systems, central committee member of Jiusan Society, the chairman of World Robot Cooperation Organization member of IEEE Fellow committee (responsible for electing IEEE Fellow) and director of the Technical Committee on Robotic Intelligence of Chinese Association of Automation. She is IEEE Fellow, and she was the first scholar in the Chinese mainland to be elected and re-elected of the Administrative Committee Member of IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (the world’s largest technical professional organization of robotics and automation, including 15,000 members, 18 committee members).
Hong Qiao is an expert and academic leader in robotic theory and application. She has made systematic, creative and important contributions to Perception, Cognition, Control and New Structure Design of Human-Inspired Robotic Systems. Based on the mechanism that humans can realize extraordinary overall performance that is better than the independent performance of each body unit, she is the first one who discovered and proposed methods to systematically find high-dimensional "Attractive Regions in Environment" (ARIE) (known as "Qiao’s concept"). Inspired by human behavior, musculoskeletal structure and human neural mechanisms, she innovatively proposed new models of human-inspired systems. Her research works have been applied in intelligent manufacturing cooperating with leading enterprises of China, and widely cited by lots of famous scientists, including academicians from the United States, Canada and etc. She has received many top prizes including the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award (the highest fundamental research award in China) and the First Prize of Chinese Association of Automation Technology Invention Award (both ranking first). |
