Academic Achievements |
Dr. Tan has engaged in computer vision and pattern recognition research for a long time, who developed theory and method of iris recognition systematically and broke through the key technology of practical application of iris recognition. In the past ten years, he attain three times technological progress by leaps and bounds, so that iris recognition technology inChinacan enter into the international leading ranks. He also met the demand of high-recognition technology in key areas inChinaand changed our passive situation that we controlled by others in this strategic high-tech filed. After his research and establishment of visual computing theory based on visual environment constraints, some major defects in Marr visual computing theory have been overcome. His work laid an important foundation for application of computer version, which signed development of research and application level in intelligent video surveillance technology inChina. He creatively used texture analysis in language, fonts and handwriting recognition problems, solved many problems which required local feature extraction in existing methods, and opened up the study of new approaches of such pattern recognition problems. His research promotes the development of the discipline strongly, and has extensive influence in international academia.
Dr. Tan has published more than 390 research papers in refereed journals and conferences in the areas of image processing, computer vision and pattern recognition, and has authored or edited 11 books. He holds 36 patents.
